We are excited to have started our fourth year of Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) at Lincoln Middle School in Fort Collins! For the second year in a row, Bohemian Foundation is generously funding us in what we now call the Open Door Project. The Open Door Project was designed to help interrupt the inter- generational cycle of crime and poverty among at risk youth attending Lincoln Middle School. The project combines the power and wisdom of learning from horses (Equine Facilitated Learning) with Emotional Intelligence (EI) education. Our over all goal is to help kids connect with their own internal sense of power so that they do not need to use force to find fulfillment in their lives. As they open doors to their own innate wisdom, we also want to open the doors of the community to them. Hence, the Open Door Project is a private/public partnership funded by Bohemian Foundation, executed by Lincoln Middle School, Amani Mediation and Counseling LLC, and Hearts and Horses. In the future we will be seeking far greater private support from individuals and businesses who will be asked to provide financial scholarships and vocational mentoring for individual kids. Please stay tuned. We need your help!!
