Today’s objective was Overcoming Challenges. All the kids did, and it was our coolest day yet! The volunteers were thrilled an amazed with the kids riding ability as the cruised the trail around the farm. The kids were equally as pleased. As they rode over obstacles, they reflected and shared about obstacles in their lives. During the ground work the kids completely stepped up to the challenge of leading their horse through an obstacle course without a rope. They had moments of amazing team work while doing so. All of the kids gave themselves a success score of nine or ten on check out. When asked what they learned that they could bring back to school with them, they had some of the following things to say:
“Keep your mental discipline; don’t give in to tempting thoughts that don’t matter.” “Giving Up is not an Option.”
“Stay calm.”
“If you really want it, you can do it.”
‘There is no challenge too great.”
“Don’t hide from your past.”
“Just let it roll off of your back."
“What I learned about challenges is to face them.”
Another great comment I heard was “this program has really helped me. I use to just go along and not say anything, whatever would just happen. Now I am talking, getting a voice and trying.”
These kids are amazing!!!
